Batik is a traditional art of coloring fabric with dye and wax. We will use dye and glue rather than hot wax.
Everyone will learn about the art of batik and create their own. At the end of the 3 classes everyone will take home a completed pillowcase – an individual creation of design and colors.
The series is in 3 classes as there is time needed for drying between each step of the process.
Class #1 (Sept 22, 3:00 – 5:30) – learn about the traditional art of batik, create a unique design (drawn on paper first), copy design onto test fabric and practice the skills. Then when ready put design on the pillowcase and then apply glue. The glue must dry completely before we can begin any work with dyes.
Class #2 (Sept 29, 3:00 – 5:30) – Begin the process of dyeing the fabric. Mix the dyes and apply to pillowcase.
Class #3 (Oct 6, 3:00 – 5:30) – Continue with the steps of the previous class and conclude with removing the glue for a finished product.
